Waterloo Institute for Groundwater Research

Groundwater research group enables independent, collaborative opportunities

The Waterloo Institute for Groundwater Research is composed of scientists with interests in a wide variety of topics related to hydrogeology. General areas of research activity include groundwater resources management; contaminant hydrogeology; environmental geochemistry; numerical modelling; isotope hydrology; environmental geophysics; field and laboratory experimentation; and ecological hydrology. Its origins date back to 1982 within the Department of Earth Sciences. WIGR provides an organizational structure to promote independent and collaborative research opportunities for scientists and partners in all areas of hydrogeology and facilitates access to information through publications and training. It enhances educational and employment opportunities for students and provides a base for the continued development of groundwater-related research at UW.
